Acrobat and AIR an installer made in heaven?

Hot on the heels of the Acrobat 9 announcement, Adobe have announced Acrobat Reader 9.

The most exciting part of this release as far as i’m concerned is that it comes packaged up with Adobe AIR!

As part of the Reader 9 download you get access to Adobe’s new acrobat.com, a set of online tools that let you create PDFs, co-author and just generally collaborate with friends and colleagues. To tie Reader and AIR together, they have included the acrobat.com AIR application so people can do all this from their desktop.

This is such a brilliant way for Adobe to speed up the distribution / uptake of AIR. For me as a developer in a govt organisation this is also be a huge win. The chance of getting the organisation to adopt AIR by itself is unfortunately pretty slim, at least until it’s a couple years old. But, as part of something as fundamental as Acrobat Reader, then the chance of it getting AIR into the enterprise is almost assured!

Best of all, from what I can see you can’t opt out of installing AIR either. muhahahaha.. sorry bout that.

Bring on the RIAs!
